Executive Director Hiring

The Illinois Fire Chiefs Association (IFCA), the organization representing more than 1600 Chief Fire Officers in Illinois, is seeking applicants to fill the position of Executive Director. This is a full-time, salaried position. The Executive Director works remotely, represents the IFCA at meetings and events throughout Illinois and some out of State travel is required. 

The Executive Director reports to the elected Board of Directors and is responsible for managing the day to day workings of the Association including but not limited to: overseeing Association finances, coordinating meetings and maintaining minutes, maintaining records, files, and financial reports, managing Association resources, and serving as Association liaison to several partner agencies/associations. 

The Executive Director coordinates the editing and publishing of the IFCA monthly “Hot Sheet” newsletter, the Association publication, “The Gong,” and other outreach efforts to both members and non-members.  The Executive Director also manages Association written correspondence and assists with coordinating the Association Committees.

The Executive Director is responsible for the coordination of both the IFCA annual symposium and annual conference.  Additionally, this position is also the Executive Director for the IFCA Education and Research Foundation.  This responsibility includes overseeing the finances and coordination of the activities of the IFCA-ERF.   

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with extensive knowledge of the fire service, a good working knowledge of applicable computer programs including the Microsoft Office Suite, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate many projects with multiple partner organizations, while exuding a strong executive presence.  The Executive Director is often required to address groups, both small and large, requiring superior public speaking skills. A successful candidate is expected to work independently and effectively to objectively analyze situations and determine appropriate actions. Clear, complete, tactful communications are critical. The ability to maintain confidentiality in the performance of these duties is essential.

The starting salary for the position is $90,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with an appropriate benefit package.
